Overview of the week:

Sunday : July 20, 2008
Pre-Convention dinner.  A tradition now with more and more people coming in a day early to clean their cars, and watch more arrivals on Monday.  We have chosen a neat restaurant a short drive from the host hotel.  The Coho Cafe/Restaurant in Issaquah is going to be fun.

Monday: July 21, 2008
Registration day at the host hotel as cars arrive, and people meet up with old friends to tour the city.  We will have driving tours and suggestions for you to visit in the Seattle area.  There is plenty of shopping, fun places for kids and adults alike.  We are working on a washing area if you want to clean up your car.

The Reception will be at the host hotel with a light snack, a meeting going over details of the coming events, meet old friends and make new ones. We may also have a few door prizes for those that attend.

We are going to drive a VERY short distance to a famous local Drive-in Restaurant for a Cruise-in and dinner.  Join us at Triple X Drive-In for huge burgers, great Root Beer (I will choose the "Float" option!) and fun.

Golf with Ron Porter and friends! This will probably be the only day for golf, for those that partake.  Contact Ron for details.

Tuesday: July 22, 2008

The annual Car SHOw helps get the convention going right with everyone appreciating all of these 4 door sedans that we continue to drive everyday in some cases! We will have the SHOw at the host hotel.  The Car SHOw usually runs from 7 or 8am to about Noon.  There will be great looking and super clean SHO's everywhere; even the "Road Warriors" Class for cars that are not in the show for judging contains cars with lots of history displayed with a description of what made them special cars. This is the best day to really see the cars at their best and relax before two intense days of using the cars to their fullest.

Our SHO friends in Washington are working on a great and fun drive in the area around Wenatchee Mountains North of the host hotel and straight East of Seattle.  We will start with lunch, then a great drive with shopping in a scenic tourist town, and dinner at an area restaurant.

Tuesday evening is then concluded with the traditional impromptu gathering in the hotel parking lot for conversation!

Wednesday: July 23, 2008

The mid-week track day is always a SHO Enthusiasts favorite. We will be doing Driver Education and lapping at beautiful Pacific Raceways.  We are joining up with the local Alfa Romeo club to insure a full track and keep costs down.  They are also running the event so the organizers and all OUR people can just relax and enjoy the day!

On the drive home from our track day we will stop at a great local restaurant.

IMPORTANT SAFETY EQUIPMENT INFORMATION:  Please note that for the track event, you MUST have a Snell 2000 or newer helmet, but we can accept either SA (automobile) or M (Motorcycle) helmets. Also note that some autocross type seat belt systems will NOT be allowed. But stock seat belts and any SCCA legal 5 or 6 point system is legal. (NOTE: many clubs do NOT allow "M" Motorcycle helmets, so if you are buying a new helmet, we recommend you get the newest SNELL rating (2010 I think) and an SA helmet for automobile use.)

You must also have a pair of LEATHER gloves (or fireproof nomex) and eye protection.
For the gloves, the typical "drivers" gloves with holes in the back will NOT be legal. but a pair of farmers gloves from Farm and Fleet will be. Or other quality solid leather gloves. Nothing with the fingers cut off will be accepted either.

For glasses, shatterproof reading glasses or sunglasses are OK, or a helmet with a full face shield. OR you can use shatterproof goggles or even factory style safety glasses.

We will have some very affordable gloves and free safety glasses (borrow the glasses, purchase the gloves) at the track if you forget. Of course long cotton or nomex pants, leather shoes (or nomex) and long sleeve cotton shirt or nomex shirt/jacket are required.

Thursday: July 24, 2008

A fun day or sight seeing is planned in Seattle, with lunch on the Bay, a Ferry ride and tour around the Olympic mountains, on roads said to be some of the most fun/scenic in the world.  Talked about in any article about driving in Washington State, a drive you won't want to miss, even at $4.50/gallon of gas (or more, we hope not)

The Banquet Thursday night is the conclusion to the convention, and is usually placed at the host hotel. The Banquet is host to our main fundraising event to help raise money for the American Cancer Society, NOTE: due to flooding in the midwest, and other problems in the US, we may switch back to the American Red Cross, National Disaster Relief Fund for this year..  Door prizes, Charity Auction, trophy presentations and more make this a night not to be missed.

After the Banquet, the parking lot usually comes alive with talk and refreshments (!) as people unwind and get in more SHO stories before heading to homes all across the US and Canada.

Friday: July 25, 2008
This was not an official convention day, but many people have been known to stay an extra day or two to see more of the sites.  We will make several good suggestions for family and individual fun sites to visit.

SPECIAL THANK YOU:

Thanks again from the Mallinson Clan,  to our SHO Convention working group for 2008

Special thanks to Mike Stimson and Kurt Gutzka with SHO Parts NW for their help in planning and so much more.
And the members of the SHO Convention Committee that provide guidance

On a personal note, We would like to thank everyone who continues to provide support, advice and insight along with invaluable assistance putting on the SHO Conventions! Thank you to all!!

THANKS TO THE VENDORS THAT ARE CONTRIBUTING TO THE CONVENTION FOR THE DOOR PRIZES OR CHARITY AUCTION.  Check them out and buy from them.  These are good people!

Beyond 2008:

We are working hard on 2009 with the North East SHO Group to give everyone Whiplash! for 2009 in the far NorthEast, exact location to be announced later.  We even have a special "Whiplash" prize for the person that makes both conventions and meets a set of criteria including SHOw-N-Go points, long distance, and attending both events.  Do you have what it takes to drive to the far ends of the country to SHOw off?
